38% of the persons receiving full in-patient hospital treatment were operated in 2015

WIESBADEN – In 2015, 38% (7.0 million) of the total of just under 18.7 million in-patients treated in general hospitals were operated. Compared with the previous year, the proportion remained unchanged. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that just over half of the patients who underwent surgical intervention during their stay in hospital in 2015 were aged 60 years or over.
